after having the best part-time job ever as a nanny/mother's helper for some dear friends for the past 3 years, i was almost at a loss when i moved away to a new college. what was i going to do? where in the world should i start to look? could i trust God to provide the perfect job in His time? i must confess i was very doubtful about that last one and for a while was stubbornly trying to "help" God out since i couldn't see the plan. i'm not much help, but it's hard to remember that when my flesh is impeding my view.
i applied and interviewed for a couple jobs on campus. none of them proved to be the one. needless to say, i was very, very discouraged, feeling like i had run out of options. it's interesting how turning to God (the best option) is so often my last option when i've run out of my own. my ideas seemed so much better at first.
it took me a couple days, some reality chats/checks, and many tearful prayers, but i eventually placed all of it back in God's hands. it wasn't easy . it's still not easy. every day i have to give bits back that i've snatched away from Him again.
to make a long story shorter (it's late and i've been typing a paper off and on all day), i may now have 2 jobs. this semester i am volunteering with a program on campus for college students with special needs as part of a project for my special ed. class. in talking with the coordinator (a lovely , super talented lady) i found out that she had 3 work-study positions she wants to fill. there's one small problem-i'm on the waiting list for work-study. well, the coordinator really wants to hire me and she's trying to speed up the process so she can. i've been moved up on the waiting list and now must wait until september 24, when work-study reassignments are made.
the second job i may have is also with the same program. i have been volunteering exclusively with one girl with down syndrome. an agency that is providing some of her funding is in the process of hiring me to be one of her main paid supports.
all of this has happened in the past week and i'm still working on processing it all. God never ceases to amaze me. i thought i had exhausted all my options, but God knew otherwise. i rushed ahead with my own plans and came up short. once i let go and chose to wait and see what God would do, He provided not 1, but 2 potential jobs doing something i love and that is geared toward my major.
my cup truly runneth over, more so than i could ever ask, think, or imagine. this was worth the wait. i can't wait to keep waiting to watch how God continues working all things together for my good, in this and everything else.
I am so encouraged reading your story about a job. It puts my position into the right perspective. By the way, something is heading your direction:)
