autumnish thoughts

yesterday was the official first day of autumn (or "fall," but i've always thought "autumn" sounded nicer). i love autumn. it is a season of pumpkin patches, cooler days, and brilliant foliage. it is also a season of change. the lazier days of summer give way to the bustling days of the school year. the leaves will soon start turning from deep summer greens to blazing reds, glowing oranges, and shining yellows. i am quickly turning from the beginning-of-the-semester-gradual-increase into the full-swing-routine-of-homework-and-general-super-busyness.

speaking of changing, i wrote my dad a letter today. well, i typed it up and addressed the envelope so i could mail it today. this letter has been a long time in coming. i needed to write it, to let my dad know that i love him and appreciate his godly example in many things. i also needed to write it to let go of some bitterness and hurt that i was holding onto. forgiveness is a daily choice and that letter, along with persistent prayer is helping me make that choice every morning. God is slowly changing my heart and i pray that change will soon drift over into my relationship with my dad. whatever my Father is doing inside of me to produce this change feels like chaos, but somehow there is still peace. His peace. this is something much greater than i. He shows me how to grow through this change. i want to.

there are many, many reasons i love this season and the changes it is ushering in. the top one on the list: what is happening inside my heart.
