it has been almost two weeks since i went to washington, d.c. with an awesome group to help save the university participant program. last october our program was awarded a large grant from the federal government to be a model university program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. as a result of proposed federal budget cuts for the rest of this year's budget and the 2012 federal budget, there was a very real chance our funding would not continue. this meant that we might also have to shut down the entire program in the near future. we were able to speak with legislative assistants of Richard Burr, Kay Hagan, Virginia Foxx, and Heath Shuler about the up program and stand up for what we believe is an opportunity that is desperately needed for students with intellectual disabilities. currently, the status of the grant is still up in the air. this is where laying down comes in. we are working together to do all we can to save the up program. i have been reminded that God already knows what is going to happen. He already has a plan for the program, the students enrolled, and the rest of us as well. it's not easy, but i am letting go and trusting our lives in His more than capable hands.
this is one of my favorite pictures i took on the trip. it is my reminder to pray and trust instead of worry about the future. it is my reminder that God causes all things to work together for good to them that love Him. it is my reminder that God has the final say and wants me to lay it all down before Him. He is the master puzzler, for He can put all the messed up pieces back in place and make something beautiful.
